On the 24 th August the bell ringers celebrated 50 years since the dedication and augmentation of the bells at Lyng. We celebrated with a short service of re-dedication and blessing of the bells, followed by many joyous rounds of ringing,
We were privileged to be able to welcome back ringers from Edgar’s day; in particular Dave Kenner and his wife, who travelled from their home in Tintagel. A compliment to Brian Parish, our current captain, that people want to uphold tradition. (A separate article forwarded from Brian is included in this magazine).
This was followed by a BBQ, courtesy of Brian and hosted by our newest ringers Richie and Marion. A big thank you to everyone involved!
At the end of August, we were able to make the most of the good weather and hold a cream tea in the village hall garden. This was very well supported and raised a fantastic £156 for the Church Tower Fund. Thank you to all those who contributed in any way.
The village hall garden is looking good after a lot of hard work by volunteers and now has a beautifully trimmed hedge, thanks to Hywel and Graham.
September saw the church celebrate an early harvest. Well done to all the flower arrangers, who made our church look wonderful. After a very enjoyable service and interesting talk from Rob Walrond, Pat provided bread, crackers and an extensive cheeseboard - I can certainly recommend the ‘Black ‘Bomber!’ All proceeds from the sale of produce went to the fund supporting those in need in the farming community.
At the time of writing, a great deal of work is under way throughout the Benefice, in order to produce a profile, which we hope will encourage applicants to apply to be our new vicar. This is not an easy task!
Coming up on the 19 th October is our last coffee morning for the season, so do come and join us!
Our recent Parish Council meeting was once again focused on the speeding traffic. A meeting is due to take place with our PCSOs to try and find a way forward.
